Super Spice Bread
2 2/3 cups unbleached flower
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 ounce active dry yeast
1/2 teaspoon turbinado sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon rosemary
1/4 teaspoon sage
Stir the yeast
into 2 tablespoons of warm water. Add the sugar and mix. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes, until it doubles in
volume. While the yeast mixture sits, combine the flour with 1 1/3 cups of water
in a large mixing bowl. Stir the ingredients until they are well combined. Mix in the
vegetable oil, salt and seasonings.
When the yeast has doubled, stir it into the flour
mixture. Knead the dough until the ingredients are completely mixed together.
Cover the bowl and store in a warm place (110 degrees is
optimal).
Allow the dough to sit for about an hour, until it
doubles in size. Once the dough has doubled, knead it back to its original size.
Place it in a greased 9 X 5 inch breadpan, cover it, and let it rise until it
doubles in size (this takes about an hour). Once it doubles in size, remove the
cover and bake at 350 for about 45 minutes.
